Why Should I Use Hydro Seeding?

Hydro seeding is your best choice for a new lawn. Hydro seeding uses mulch, usually paper or wood, grass seed, fertilizer, water soluble dye, and tacking agent, mixed with water into a thick mixture that looks a lot like oatmeal. It is then sprayed into the top layer of soil, where it forms a bonded surface that holds the soil and seed in place.

Hydro seeding holds the seed in place, unlike straw where the seed can wash around. Hydro seeding resists erosion very well, and helps hold moisture in the soil.

Hydro seeding means faster germination. While the seed is in the machine, the seeds germination cycle is triggered, saving up to 3 to 4 weeks in germination time compared to broadcast style seeding.

Hydro seeding assures even coverage, reducing the chances of bare spots and guarantees the seed/soil contact that is critical for seed germination.

Hydro seeding uses mulch, not straw. Straw contains weed seed, our mulch does not. So there will be fewer weeds in the new lawn. Also, there is no straw to rake up when the grass is mature. The mulch breaks down and disappears after the grass has matured.

Typical grow in period under good weather conditions, for a newly hydro seeded lawn is four weeks. Typical grow in period for broadcast seeded lawns can be 6 to 8 weeks, or more.

Hydro seeding is a fraction the cost of sod, and better quality,

as hydro seeded lawns are grown in place. The grass seed

roots itself immediately, and no brown die off areas are

experienced, as is common with sod as seen in photo on right.

A hydro seeded lawn uses as much as 10 times less water than sod to become established, as the roots on sod have been cut off, so water uptake is very inefficient.

Hydro seeding is ideal for erosion control. The mulch and tacking agents locks the top layer of soil together, allowing water to soak in, while resisting wash outs.
